DHA Cowrie – The Construction Co.

This was an accelerated project where an 8 month programme was successfully condensed into 4 months.

This project included the amalgamation of various national State Departments into one building, Cowrie Place. This project was the prototype for similar amalgamation of various State services from different areas within a precinct into one all-inclusive building. This was a prototype for the roll-out of similar amalgamations at all Ports in South Africa. The success of this project ensured the continuation of the roll-out.

The demolition of the old building to its core brick work superstructure included technical and health & safety challenges. The removal of the old asbestos roof and roof substructure required the implementation of hazardous material protocols while the reconfiguration of the existing building required extensive and in depth planning to accommodate a wide array of trades.
